It’s strange to think that the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company has been in business for over a century, but it was way back in 1898 that Frank A. Seiberling bought his first plant. Today, Goodyear is one of the largest tire companies in the world with 55 factories in 22 countries. In fact, the Goodyear blimp is one of the most recognizable icons of our generation.
Goodyear tires were named for Charles Goodyear, who discovered vulcanization, a process of treating rubber with sulfur and heat to make it h2er and more durable. This development is what made Goodyear an undeniable presence in the rubber industry and led the company to develop tires that were unparalleled in the automotive aftermarket industry. Since 1916, Goodyear has been the world’s largest tire company.
1901 was a critical year for Goodyear tires. This was the year that Henry Ford decided to use Goodyear rubber for his race car, which led to Goodyear’s first official race and victory. This was only the beginning of Goodyear’s longstanding relationship with motorsports. Now, many of the top race cars in the industry are equipped with Goodyear tires. In Formula One racing, Goodyeartires have more starts, wins, and constructor’s championships than any other tire supplier in history. Outside of racing, you’ll also commonly see the Goodyear name on automobiles, light trucks, commercial trucks, SUVs, airplanes, and heavy earth-mover machinery.
Goodyear tires have been honored with a number of titles from some of the most reputable sources. In 2008, the Reputation Institute and Forbes magazine said Goodyear tires had the 16th best reputation of every company in the United States. Fortune magazine named Goodyear the world’s most admired motor vehicle parts company and the 6th most trustworthy American company.
In the current aftermarket industry, Goodyear is mostly known for its street tires, but the company also has a line of off-road tires featuring the following designs:
Any one of these Goodyear tires will improve the performance of your truck or SUV, both on and off road. If you’re looking for a tire brand that’s proven itself reliable, look no further than Goodyear.
